ALBURY - ECHUCA CRUISE

On this cruise you will experience waters rarely cruised by other operators.  This section of the river is quite isolated and usually only cruised on by tinnies and canoes. Irrigation waters are released from Hume Dam and river flows in this section of the river are highest during peak irrigation season.  This cruise can be quite the adventure due to swift currents, many snags and the varying river levels.  For these reasons this cruise can only operate in one direction, during late October and the month of November.  Even then it is subject to water levels.

DAY 1: Depart Albury town wharf at 9am and be told of the fascinating history of the area as you cruise downstream. There is a good chance today that you may spot an elusive platypus – often sighted on this section of river. Enjoy lunch onboard as we pass by the town of Howlong and cruise further downstream to Corowa for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

DAY 2: Depart Corowa and enjoy the scenery as we cruise past the sleepy hamlet of Wahgunyah. Picnic lunch served on board as the river scenery unfolds. In the afternoon enter Lake Mulwala, a huge reservoir for the VIC and NSW irrigation schemes. Travel across 40km of lake waters amongst flooded red gum forests before stopping at Lake Mulwala for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

DAY 3: Depart Mulwala by coach to Yarrawonga to board the boat. Cruise past the Mulwala State Forest and Cobrawonga Beach. There are many lagoons and backwaters in this section as the Murray has meandered in its valley bed over thousands of years. An 1870 survey of the Murray River carved mile marks in trees and these are still seen today. Cruise past the old Berrigan Pumping Station before enjoying lunch on board. In the afternoon pass by Cobram, famous for its “peaches & cream”, to arrive Tocumwal for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

DAY 4: Departing Tocumwal pass under the old lift span bridge, a reminder of bygone paddle steamer days. Pass by Ulupna Island, home to many koalas and on through the Millewa National Park. This area is home to sea eagles which are often sighted. Another delightful lunch on board

our vessel today. Cruising downstream we pass by Honeymoon and Pinch Gut Bend, Long Landing & Barbers Garden before travelling by the entrance to the Edward River and into Picnic Point where a coach is waiting to transfer us to Mathoura for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

DAY 5: Return by coach to Picnic Point to meet the boat. This morning we pass by Tarragon Lodge and we have now entered the famous Barmah Forest – the largest Red Gum forest in the World. Stop at the Barmah pub for lunch. On our final afternoon of cruising we will pass by Cape Horn, Flemings Bend, and the mouth of the Goulburn River. Then the huge old wooden wharf comes into view as we sight the “Port of Echuca”. Past the mouth of the Campaspe River before completing our voyage of discovery and tying up at Moama for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

DAY 6: Coach return to Albury. After breakfast board your coach for return transfer to Albury arriving about lunch time. Your route is via the main highway with a deviation to see the Hume Reservoir, the area generally regarded as the original source of the Murray River.
